The full realization of Pocket Journey's vision relies on the availability and adoption of technology (GPS, media enabled phone, open APIs) that is only now becoming available. Due to this extended timeline, we can't open up the entire community effort behind Pocket Journey just yet. However we do want to show enough to entice you. If you find this project interesting, then please join us in this effort.

Here's a quick peak at the basic elements.

Pocket Journey relies on establishing a community dedicated to creating high-quality audio and video content about every location on the planet. This community will determine the best ways to create, annotate, and structure the content and will be assisted throughout the process by a team dedicated to developing the best web and mobile tools to help our members research, create, and associate content.

The content consumers (whether tourists or locals exploring their own areas) comprise a second community able to request new content and to offer feedback on the previously generated audio and video.

Perhaps the most critical initial step has been determining how to organize and structure the submitted audio and video so it will be easily searchable by the content consumer community. Throughout this effort, the audio guide community and Pocket Journey team is dedicated to rapid website response times (else users won't return), but most important, ensuring the highest standard for all submitted content.

To focus the community's initial effort we have targeted a select group of cities and other major destinations for the initial launch of Pocket Journey (see to right). These are some of the most popular tourist destinations and those most likely to benefit from Pocket Journey's capabilities. Don't worry if you are the the type of person who spends more time outside cities than in them, we are also gathering content for those numerous places as well.
